16th Shri Tek Chand Memorial Basketball Tournament Commences with Enthusiasm; Thrilling Matches Mark Opening Day

Round The Watch News, Dehradun: The 16th Shri Tek Chand Memorial Basketball Tournament (Under–12 Girls) kicked off at The Doon Girls School on 25th September, with an energetic start to three days of exciting competition. The tournament was formally inaugurated by Ramnjeet Grewal, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Also present were C.P. Dang (Chairman, The Doon Girls School), Mandeep Grewal (General Secretary, Uttarakhand Basketball Association), Shailja Aswal (General Secretary, Dehradun District Basketball Association), and several other distinguished guests. Their presence added to the spirit of the event, encouraging the young players to showcase their talent and sportsmanship.

The first day witnessed eight keenly contested matches, where teams battled with grit and determination, drawing cheers and applause from the spectators. The spirited performances set a competitive tone for the tournament, which will continue until 27th September, with school teams from across the region competing for the prestigious trophy.

Match 1: Doon Girls School outclassed The Aryan, 34–06.

Match 2: Convent of Jesus & Mary edged past Him Jyoti School, 06–04.

Match 3: Army Public School, Birpur defeated Ann Mary School, 12–10.

Match 4: Convent of Jesus & Mary narrowly beat Gyananda School, 06–04.

Match 5: Doon Girls School overcame Shigally Hills, 18–08.

Match 6: St. Jude’s prevailed over Gyananda School, 12–08.

Match 7: Ann Mary School dominated Shigally Hills, 18–02.

Match 8: Him Jyoti School outperformed St. Jude’s, 12–04.

With such an exhilarating start, the tournament promises more gripping contests in the days ahead, as the young athletes chase glory and the coveted Shri Tek Chand Memorial Trophy.
